Year 11 Geography students braved the harsh conditions at Thornton Cleveleys to undertake their Coastal Investigation Fieldwork. They began looking at the sea defences on the beach. Starting with measuring the Groynes they evaluated the effectiveness of the Groynes, the Spanish Steps and the Old Sea Wall. They then engaged the public as they conducted their Tourist/Residents Questionnaire, asking participants to rank the effectiveness of the sea defences, consider how they use the beach and the importance of the management scheme in improving the beach.
It was a bracing day but the students were able to obtain some valuable results for their GCSE work.
