Make Your Own Gateaux or Birthday/Xmas/Eid Cake

 

 

Basic Sponge

Ingredients:

175g S.R. Flour
   175g Caster Sugar
   175g Soft Margarine
   2 eggs (beaten)
   1 tsp baking powder
   1 tsp vanilla essence

 

Method:

  1. Turn the oven on to 180°C Gas Mark 5.
  2. Grease and line 2 sandwich tins.
  3. Measure all the ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  4. Beat using an electric mixer for 1 – 2 mins.
  5. Divide between the sandwich tins.
  6. Bake for 20 – 24 mins.

Allow to cool on a cooling rack.

 

Birthday Cake

Ingredients:

1 large tub whipping cream
    1 tbsp caster sugar
    ½ tsp vanilla essence
    1 small tin mandarins (drained)
    150g cooking chocolate
    2 tbsp jam


Method:

  1. Whip the cream, then stir in the sugar and vanilla essence.
  2. Assemble the cake using the jam and a little cream in the middle.
  3. Spread the cream over the top and sides.
  4. Decorate with mandarins and chocolate.
 

 

Iced Cake

Ingredients:              Buttercream:

Ready to roll icing            100g icing sugar
   Icing Sugar                      50g butter/margarine
   Icing tube                         Writing Pens
   Apricot Jam
   Icing figures (opt)
   Ribbon (opt)

Eid Cake

 

Xmas Cake

Method:

  1. Cream the butter and icing sugar together
  2. Sandwich the cakes together with butter cream and jam.
  3. Spread the apricot jam over the cake.
  4. Roll out the ready roll icing and mould over the top of the cake – trim.

Decorate.
