Geography examines the Earth's environment, the processes which shape and change it, and the interaction of man with this environment. Carefully selected case studies are used to illustrate these concepts, which allow students to become aware of their local, national and global environments.

The world is ever-changing, and Geography at the Derby High School places emphasis on this change, with class work and fieldwork examining subjects from the 2004 Asian Tsunami, to the recent regeneration of East Manchester.

Key Stage 3

Geography is a compulsory National Curriculum subject in Years 7 - 9, and various units of work are covered including Settlements, Brazil, Global Fashion, Earthquakes & Volcanoes. (A full break down of the units on offer are shown under each year group)

Key Stage 4

The department offers a wide ranging and multi-disciplinary GCSE course, covering a mixture of Human & Physical Geography.
Geography is an ideal GCSE subject choice, drawing together many parts of the academic curriculum.
The ability to analyse, problem solve, and communicate orally and in written form are all skills developed through GCSE Geography. Throughout the GCSE course, a variety of units are covered, including coasts, weather & climate, and globalisation, and students will be introduced to fieldwork techniques in the local area. (A full break down of the units on offer are shown under each year group)
